La Loba

string quartet and organ

Deep in the forest green
far from the city lights
under a full moon
I saw a wild sight:

Locked onto pale eyes
Shining like lantern lights
I saw La Loba
Running in the night!

Lady of the untamed
Goddess of the wild things
Queen of the forest
The One who of the Night sings

Teach me your to sing
your wildish lullabies!

Guillotine

Marie Antoinette
who lost her head over cake

I recall

her poison poise
bowed below the blade.

( did i want

both black and white,
here and there,
this and that?

did i want
to have my cake and eat it too?

did i want? )

that neck is familiar
waiting there
on the edge between
yes and no

(too much wanting
makes a metamorphosis:

that
strained
and
blanched
thing -- )

I own it –
mine.

the fragile

(when it becomes
arrogant
stupid
or vulnerable)

lands here
with nowhere to lay its head
but on this unyielding pillow

(now i am no more an island
no more a rock)

i am become that
not too solid flesh
which, when it fails
to melt of its own volition,
is brought to this place
of beginnings
cut short

waiting

whose hand holds the catch?
whose would stay the blade's fall?

waiting
waiting
waiting

when a mere breath
could bring everything to an end

Some Music for Andrea

OK, so life is hard sometimes. We actually have it really good here -- imagine what it must be like to live in Lebanon right now. It makes our sadnesses and difficulties pale by comparison. BUT -- still, we feel them and we perceive by contrasts. So the depth of our sadness and pain of whatever degree is felt relative to our average state.

Andrea wanted some music with a cello in it -- sweet, sorrowful and beautiful, like a drenching rain... that's what i wrote down from our conversation. I don't know if I really got that -- but anyway, here it is. To you, Andrea, and to friendship!

My Friend Donna

My friend Donna has left for California. I miss her. Below, you can play "Donna's Air", a jig I wrote for her before she left.

Phenomenology *

Here it comes...

There it goes...

And now something else
Will appear, I suppose...

* phe·nom·e·nol·o·gy n
1. in philosophy, the science or study of phenomena, things as they are perceived, as opposed to the study of being, the nature of things as they are

2. the philosophical investigation and description of conscious experience in all its varieties without reference to the question of whether what is experienced is objectively real

In Memoriam -- Judy Warburton

Leo and Judy, Thanksgiving 2005

powered by ODEO

Judy died at about 4:15 yesterday (Saturday) at Pikes Peak Hospice, surrounded reverently and attentively by friends and family, after a massive stroke. She was 61 years old. Leo, her husband, and my brother-in-spirit, had his hand on her head and i had my hand on her heart as she took her last breaths. A nurse came in and he listened to her heart, and said "She's gone". We sang amazing grace and "humble yourself in the sight of the Lord", a song she liked very much, with Leo playing guitar. Except for a break or two, Leo and I stayed with her body from the dying process, as it lost its warmth and turned pale cool to the touch, accompanied it out of the building, covered in a blue blanket with a pink carnation on top from the hospice staff. Leo asked the funeral home guys to uncover her face one last time. He kissed her goodbye, and I kissed her arm. The funeral home staff put her body in the van. Her body will be cremated.

Judy will be remembered for her kindness and sensitivity to people, her love of animals, her devotion to the Blessed Mother, her innocence, her drawings, and her pithy comments, such as : "If there are 12 guys in a restaurant, one of them is bound to fart."

There will be a memorial service tomorrow.

How to add pix, fonts and colors to yr post -- for Maya

If you want to spice up your postings, when you are typing the text for a posting, take a look at the toolbar -- a row of buttons just above the place you type your text -- it looks like this:

You can change the typestyle by selecting the text you wish to change, then selecting a Font and Size from the dropdown lists:

You can make the text bold, italic, or change its color (or all of the above) with the following buttons, respectively:

You can add a link to another web page with this button.

With these 4 buttons, respectively: you can format your text

left-justified

centered

right justified or

evenly spaced so the words fill up a line (this doesn't seem to work though)

With these two buttons, you can:

create a numbered list

  1. apples
  2. oranges
  3. bananas

or a bulleted list:

  • apples
  • oranges
  • bananas

to add a picture, click this button. A file selection dialog box will appear enabling you to search on your computer and select a picture to upload. Only certain picture formats seem to work -- "jpeg" format (file extension .jpg) works.

There are a few other buttons, too -- roll your mouse over them and text will appear that gives a hint as to what they do.

Happy blogging! (and no, i didn't just figure all that out today; I used to do this sort of thing for a living).

Welcome

Hi, this a minimalist post because its early and i have had only 1 cup of coffee. I think (hope) the title of this blog and the "question" should define the parameters of this blog pretty well. Welcome!
